Leanne and Ben, the family and our team welcome you to what we consider to be a traditional English village pub. We pride ourselves on our locally-sourced homemade food, cask ales and friendly atmosphere. Whether choosing to pop in for a swift half on your way through the county (why are you not stopping for longer?), dining or staying, we look forward to making your time with us memorable and enjoyable.

Our restaurant can seat around 35 people and our bar area can accommodate a further 30 people, making us the perfect location for a meal, whether it’s an intimate meal for two or a large family celebration. Takeaways are available on request – please contact us for details.

Dorset and the West Country is home to some of the finest meat and dairy suppliers in the United Kingdom and our menus are designed to make the most of the wonderful fresh produce available on our doorstep.

Our menu ranges from traditional pub classics like homemade steak and stilton pie and a hearty Sunday Roast, to homemade haddock and horseradish fishcakes and delicious Thai curries – something to tempt all tastes.

A Little History

The pub was originally built as a girl’s school in 1848 and converted into the village inn in 1865 when the beer came from the Brewery House opposite. In the early years, the pub was particularly popular with farmers washing their sheep in the washing pool just up the lane in front of the pub. The washing pool is still there and now acts as the starting point for the annual Duck Race which sees hundreds of plastic ducks “racing” each other down the stream.
